Ramblings

I’ve been doing a lot to get this site to the…appealing stage, which I doubt I’ll ever get to. Probebly my unfamiliarity with WordPress and my lack of patience with forming another blogs layout are the main factors behind this. Being back in the blogging world is, well, kicking my butt. I’m seeing all these new blogs and getting ideas but figuring what the hell, screw trying to emulate them.

Anyway, school starts on the 30th, we’ve entered the final week. I’ve been perticularly lazy recently. Well, sorta, I have been working through the remaining pages of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, a book required for summer reading, I’ve started seriously “practicing” the seating audition music for Symphony and today my dad and I went out and finished checking all the control sites for the up-and-coming Orienteering event later in September. Hell, I even e-mailed one of the two remaining colleges I want to visit to set up a visit day with them. All this is getting done, and yet I feel so lazy. Hmmm….

Day at the park

My how I do love a good baseball game, especially when they win. A lovely game left my guys up by 4 and closing the gap on the wildcard spot and, dare I say it, first place (bursts out in laughter what is it, 8 games?). So as my mom and I first found our seats just to the left of the third base dougout we walk by Stand, passing out free gear (or as my mom misheard, free bear) to anyone who would take it.While I support stand’s mission a friend once pointed out: imagine what all these young people could do to the world of politics if they focoused on that instead. Made me think for awhile, but then smoking is a much less contravercial topic than asses and elephants.
As summer vacation winds down I’m a just enjoying the days.
Cheers

Summer fun

And so I’m finally able to enjoy spending time at home this sumer. I’m no longer running around in the North Dakotan Badlands, living it up with my family and girlfriend in the woods of Rhode Island or partying with a friend and his family in some resort type place. With all my spare time I’ve had time for…the finer things in life.
-Cleaning my room
-practicing
-finishing summer reading
-starting this site…
No, it all cant be that bad can it? I must me doing something more than just that. And…I have, I’ve been catching up with friends, hanging out with them and the works, spending time with my girlfriend, and, well, sleeping in and…following a lifestyle more typical of my age I suppose.
But whats better for me? Sleeping till noon to go about menial tasks or sleeping till 7:30 when I have get up to eat breakfast and prepare lunch before I head out to work on the trail? Spending my day’s sitting in front of a computer screen or spending them sitting in front of a pond reading. I guess I’m just more inclined to be outdoors, rather than holed up in my hot house (82 outside, humidity is 62%). But outside in this weather? Yeah I know, thats why I’m inside now.

Vigil-cont

So last night was a vigil in support of Cindy Sheehan and generally showing the country, and world that the people in America arnt mindless dumbasses. Ok, so the last part was a bit extreme but hey. We were out simply saying that we support Mrs. Sheehan in her mission and that we too want some answers, and truely want to know when the is going to end. Are 1862 lives really worth this?
What really made me…happy was the fact that there was a wide range of faces at the event, atleast more so in the anti-war protests a few yeras ago. From the elderly to the young, black to white there truely was a mix. Very inspiring and interesting to see. Interesting to hear was the honking of many many people that went by, different cars, ages, and again colors. Maybe we are a bit more untied than I thought.

Vigil

So its started, big time. People want answers. At this point I’m thinking that actions and pictures speak louder than words. Enjoy.

Ribbons

I hate these:

God Bless Merica

Riddle me this, what good do these ribbons do us? Hell, the yellow “support our troop” ribbons even show that…well…you support our troops, but lets face it who the hell doesn’t!? Nobody wants to see our sons, daughters, mothers and fathers killed, hell, most of us just want them to come home not in a box. Lets try something else, instead of buying a ribbon to stick on your gas guzzling SUV why don’t you write the troops a letter? Or does that make you too emotionally attached to the situation and make you feel responsible for what’s going on?
Now, the “support our troops” ribbons I could just scoff at and dismiss, but all this god bless the usa shit just pisses me off. I want a ribbon that says “God Bless Everyone”
And (well, you’ve got me on my soapbox now) why do cars need three of these ribbons isn’t one just good enough?

So, I’ll admit, I don’t sit there as just watch these fine displays of american consumerism drive by, no, ya see, I stole three of em, but then I figured, what good is that going to do? And as I walked down the isle of my local supermarket I had a realization…no, a revelation that well, these magnetic ribbons are…magnetic and seeing as the shelves in said store is as well…well….its just asking for it, it really is. I figure, it supports the troops about the same as if I bought it, I’m just not displaying it. The store will have to buy more anyway…
